We humans are moved by stories. With my Re-Plot partner Vegard Beyer we created the acclaimed podcast miniseries Tipping Point: The True Story of Limits to Growth, the result of a four-year research effort centred on the seminal 1972 book's author and systems thinking pioneer Donella Meadows. Among other projects, we are working on a version for the screen.
I spent most of my career as a "mainstream" economic researcher and writer for corporations and media brands such as The Economist, Financial Times and Newsweek. Economics is at the heart of decision-making and I now believe critical flaws in mainstream thinking have greatly contributed to our multiple, overlapping crises. I write and blog about this on LinkedIn and have begun research for a series that will expose the problems and highlight pathways to reform.
Beyond writing, my passion is overhauling economics education. I am Course Director of the Regenerativ Economy Lab in Vienna, which offers tailored courses to help people identify ways they can help transform our economies to acheive good lives for all within planetary boundaries. I also teach economics for terra.do's global online Climate Change: Learning for Action bootcamp, the Alternative Economic and Monetary Systems Summer School plus several colleges in Austria.
I was part of the core organising and moderating team of Beyond Growth Austria 2024, a three-day, 300-delegate conference which brought together senior politicians, scientists and activists to discuss pathways towards a post-growth economy. I am an experienced presenter and facilitator and occasionally speak at or moderate events where I feel I can make an impact.
From 2018-22 I was an elected member of my municipal government, which opened my eyes to the problems with our short-termist party-political system. At a climate strike in Vienna in 2023 I co-founded a non-partisan Doughnut Economics collective, with the goal of advocating for policies that can enable human flourishing within the means of the planet.
I am privileged to work with and advise several impactful organisations, including as board member of Global 2000, Austria's oldest and largest independent environmental NGO, advisor to impact-first crowdfunder Klimja and as a member of the Club of Rome's Austria Chapter.
I share care duties of our three wonderful children and the wildlife in our garden and pond with my husband, in our solar-powered home in the Vienna woods.
I am working towards creating a post-growth, post-profit economy that works for people and planet. If you wish to collaborate towards these goals, do reach out. Note, however, that I am currently at capacity in terms of volunteering work.
